J&P Group have announced the award of a 3-year contract with Airbus for the provision of an outsourced Pin Fastener cleaning service.
The contract has been awarded after J&P Group developed a radically alternative cleaning system to that currently employed in-house at Airbus’ wing manufacturing plant at Broughton, North Wales.
Pin Fasteners are a critical element of Airbus’ wing manufacturing process with more than 200,000 pins being cleaned and recycled each week. The cleaning process is designed to remove the high-strength industrial adhesives that are used in the production process.
Given the strength of adhesives attached to the Pin Fasteners, traditional cleaning processes need to use high-strength industrial solvents that are far from environmentally friendly. J&P have developed an alternative cleaning process that uses ultrasonic aqueous technology to reduce the need for such aggressive solvents and which offers greater efficiency in the cleaning process.
On announcing the contract, Alan Mackey, J&P Group’s Commercial Director commented: “Having been a strategic maintenance partner to Airbus, Broughton for over 5 years, this contract award underlines how J&P Group’s unrivalled engineering and maintenance knowledge can additionally help us to deliver process improvements to our customers”.
